The Road to CGM Insertion: A Journey of Trials and Triumphs

Let’s delve into my personal journey and the factors that led me to the decision for CGM insertion and why I am writing “Eversence CGM: My Honest Review”. For those living with diabetes, continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems have revolutionized blood sugar management. However, the path to finding the right CGM can be filled with challenges and setbacks.

The Dexcom Dilemma

My initial experience with CGMs began with the Freestyle Libre and later the Dexcom system. While they provided valuable insights into my blood sugar trends, I encountered several limitations. The adhesive strips, designed to last for up to 10 days, often failed prematurely, requiring frequent sensor replacements. This after using site preps such as “Not Just A Patch Skin Glu” and “Skin Grip” and additionally using Adhesive covers. This not only disrupted my routine but also added to the overall cost of using the device.

Exploring Other Options

Disappointed with the Dexcom experience, I explored other CGM options. Unfortunately, many of the available devices faced similar challenges, including, sensor reliability issues, and high costs. These factors made it difficult to find a CGM that consistently met my needs and provided the level of accuracy and dependability I desired.

The Decision for CGM Insertion

After careful consideration and consultation with my healthcare team, I decided to pursue CGM insertion. This minimally invasive procedure involves placing a sensor beneath the skin, providing continuous glucose readings without the need for finger pricks*. While the initial insertion may be uncomfortable, the long-term benefits outweigh the temporary discomfort.

The Advantages of CGM Insertion

  • Improved Accuracy: CGM insertion often provides more accurate glucose readings compared to traditional finger pricks.
  • Reduced Finger Pricks: By eliminating the need for frequent finger pricks, CGM insertion can significantly improve comfort and reduce the risk of skin irritation.
  • Enhanced Control: Real-time glucose monitoring allows for more proactive blood sugar management, potentially leading to better overall control.
  • Increased Confidence: Having a continuous stream of glucose data can boost confidence and reduce anxiety associated with managing diabetes.
  • There is always an exception. The Eversence system requires a calibration finger stick twice a day for 21 days then once a day therafter
